OUTREACH TEAM STANDARDS

APPLICATION

Application Required If you haven’t had a chance to complete the outreach application yet, please do so it's a necessary step. Without completing it, you won’t be able to join the team. This helps us ensure everyone’s safety and accountability.

FOLLOW THE LEADER

The designated team leader has the final say on routes, ministry interactions, and safety decisions. It’s important to follow their instructions without hesitation, they may see or sense things that you don’t. If something feels off or you're unsure, bring it to the leader and trust their guidance to keep the team unified, effective, and safe. Emergency Codes

EMERGENCY

Code Yellow: Potential danger. The team needs to be alert, aware, and on guard. (e.g., see a knife, someone is angry, someone with a bat coming towards us.)

Code Red: Immediate danger, We leave Immediately. This means someone is in serious threat (e.g., a gun is pulled, a trafficker is near). Yell “Code Red” loudly and clearly.

Buddy System

Never go anywhere alone. Stay within sight of the base. If a Code Red is called, you need to be close enough to respond immediately and load into vehicles FAST. Only one satellite team of 3-4 volunteers can go out at a time and bring people back to the base. Never leave vehicles or women alone.

Prayer

Pray with your eyes OPEN, Stay spiritually and physically alert at all times, we’re on the frontlines.

Men should minister to Men, and Women to Women. Always ask before laying hands on someone, many people have experienced trauma and it’s important to be respectful & sensitive to that. Keep prayers short, just a couple of minutes. We’re here to bless, not hold people hostage in prayer

No Theological Debates

Outreach isn’t the time or place for theological debates or doctrinal arguments. Our mission is to plant seeds, share the love of Christ, and reflect His heart.

Because we are a multi-church team, we honor unity by avoiding debates, both with those we serve and among ourselves as brothers and sisters in Christ. Let love lead, always.

Keys Stay with the Car

If you're driving, do not leave the vehicle with the keys in your pocket. The keys must remain accessible so the team and vehicle can be moved quickly if needed.

No Man Left Behind

One team. One mission. If you go in with us, you come out with us — no exceptions. For all of our safety. SEALs for Jesus

Pre-Outreach Prayer is Mandatory

Team prayer is essential before we head out, it’s where we come together in unity and seek God’s covering. Our spiritual strength comes from standing together. If you’re unable to join us for prayer, perhaps the Lord is inviting you to rest. We’ll be looking forward to seeing you the following week!

WHAT TO WEAR ON OUTREACH

We’ll be stepping into places where there’s brokenness…human trafficking, addiction, and people coming out of prison so let’s dress wisely.

✅ Do:

Wear modest, simple clothes

Closed-toe shoes (sneakers/boots)

Think - Jeans and a T-Shirt - Ask for an Underground 58 T-Shirt!! 😀

We want to keep a low profile and avoid drawing unnecessary attention to our group

❌ Don’t:

Wear short shorts, low-cut tops, crop tops, or tight clothes

No dress pants, dress shirts (Men)

Skip the sandals, stick to closed-toe shoes since we might be walking in spots where there could be needles or sharp objects.

Bottom line: Dress simple, pack light, stay safe, and keep the focus on loving people in the name of Jesus!!!

Volunteers must be drug-free To serve on the street outreach team, we require a minimum of one year of sobriety from drug use. We believe that to effectively minister and pray for freedom from addiction, we must first be walking in our own recovery and freedom

CONVERSATION STARTERS

When engaging with someone on the street, start with simple, respectful questions like: “How long have you been out here?” or “What’s your story?” These help build connections. Always ask their name, it brings dignity and lets them know they’re seen and valued.

If you’re hoping to guide someone toward detox or recovery, it’s more effective to ask reflective questions like: “Are you happy/Are you OK?” However, only ask this if you’ve established trust and a genuine rapport, deep questions can feel intrusive if asked too soon.

If it’s your first time, give yourself permission to take it slow. It’s okay to step back, take a moment, or even stay in the car if you need to. Start where you feel comfortable, we’re here to support you!! Remember, even something as simple as handing out pizza, soda, or water is a powerful way to show God’s love.

Every role matters, and together we make an impact as His hands and feet.

FROM THE HEART OF UNDERGROUND 58

We ask for your patience and grace as we grow, nothing we do has to be rushed. We're here to follow the Holy Spirit’s lead and move in His timing, not our own.

Our goal is to be present, listening, and obedient to wherever He directs us. We’re still in the early stages of this ministry, and right now our leadership team is covering all outreach costs out of pocket because this is where our hearts are.

If you feel led to donate items like water, soda, pizza, ice, or even help us make hygiene kits, we would be so grateful!

We’d also love your support beyond outreach, if you have free time to volunteer with other needs, or if you see an area in the ministry where your gifts and talents could be used, please let us know.

We’re so excited to welcome you to the team and honored to serve alongside YOU!
